Home Study Visit #1 - October 5th

We finally have been assigned a case worker who will be performing our three home study visits. She has contacted us and we've scheduled our first visit on Friday, October 5th.

Why so far out? Well, that's because she said we did such an amazing job with our paperwork and questionnaires that she is going to go ahead and use this time to write up the majority of our home study. After she is done writing it up she will do our home study visits in rapid succession. During these visits she will check our home for safety issues, cleanliness, and spacing for the addition of children. She will also interview us together and separately to ask any further questions she did not feel were included in our paperwork, if any.

The image below lists the State of Georgia mini list of home study requirements:

She also mentioned a couple more items not mentioned in the above list:
- Carbon monoxide detectors on each level of the home.
- Fire extinguishers on each level of the home.
- Medications locked up.
- Cleaning supplies on highest level so children can't easily access them.

We are extremely excited that the process is finally moving toward the finish line. We are also pretty anxious with all that we still need to do. Over the next couple of weeks we have so much that we have to buy to get the house ready for the home study visits, still have to get the basement fixed, and have to really clean up the house. If anyone would like to help out please let me know. We'd greatly appreciate any and all the help we get: cleaning, stocking kids bedrooms, finances, etc...

I'm sure I've mentioned it before but I'll say it again, there are approximately 15,000 children in the state of GA in Foster Care. The majority of these kids live in group homes. If you think you may be interested in becoming a foster parent I would highly recommend it. Below you will find a couple of resources to help you start the process.
